Vermont Green Schools Initiative

Co-benefits mapping

Many Vermont public schools in the Lake Champlain and Lake Memphremagog watersheds are working to comply with the three-acre general stormwater permit. The Vermont Green Schoolyards Initiative helps schools access funding to pay for green infrastructure design and permitting; set schools up for future funding for construction; and even maximize learning opportunities for students throughout the process. Schools entering the design process have the opportunity to maximize the benefits of green infrastructure projects for their students, staff, and surrounding community.

This interactive map illustrates community level data about health, equity, climate, and education that helps schools better understand how their green schoolyards projects can help communities thrive. After reviewing the data within a given school community, visit the Design Resources page to explore design ideas that maximize community benefits.
