Historic Macon Saving Places Index

ABOUT

The Saving Places Index is about connecting people to the special places that make Macon-Bibb County such a wonderful place to live, work, and play. Through public meetings and outreach, statistical and geographic data collection, and guidance from Historic Macon Foundation (HMF) and community partners, the Saving Places Index (SPI) process engaged residents to identify priority places for preservation, conservation, and recreation for Macon-Bibb County.  As a part of this process, Historic Macon Foundation and The Trust for Public Land created a StoryMap, a decision support tool, and a survey app

The StoryMap presents a summary of the Saving Places Index process and findings in a user-friendly web tool. The SPI Decision Support Tool helps stakeholders and community members identify sites and make informed decisions for preservation, conservation and recreation planning. To explore the advanced planning capabilities of the decision support tool, please click on the Mapping Portal link above. The Historic Places Survey App is a tool to help HMF collect important new places for the Saving Places Index. This tool and the places nominated in it are linked to the StoryMap and the decision support tool and will automatically update as community members add new places. Do you know of a good historic place, an important place for land conservation, or an opportunity for recreation? If so, visit our Historic Places Survey App. In just a few minutes you can nominate that place and add its location to the map.
