The Lake Chelan Community Open Space Vision is about connecting people to the special places that make the area such a wonderful place to live, work, and play. An enormous number of people, both residents and visitors, provided input for the Open Space Vision through surveys, interviews, and community meetings. Protecting the lake and expanding access to the lake were clear priorities.
This Open Space Vision will help local communities make informed decisions about protecting important resources, including the lake and its water quality, wildlife habitat, agricultural land, and recreational opportunities. The goal of the process has been to facilitate a win-win-win between land uses that are often competing by bringing as many voices as possible into the conversation and employing the best technology available to help identify priorities.
The Trust for Public Land worked with the City of Chelan, the Lake Chelan Trails Alliance, and the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust to develop this comprehensive community-based vision for balancing strategic protection of open space and recreation with continued local development. The Vision partners respect private property rights and only support voluntary protection of private land.
